Remember when spring was characterized by "April showers?"
This year, it feels like that is all we've had: April showers, May showers, floods, more showers. Enough!
But don't despair. The sun is going to shine again. It really is. Warm temperatures will soon push the thermometer to seasonable heights. The puddles will dry – even those in the middle of the intersection of Pierrefonds and St. John's Blvds. Yikes! Who would have thought that could even be a thing? There's no doubt, it's been crazy.
Now, it's time for the cleanup. And what better way to do that than to swap a little crazy for a little colour? Bright, festive, let-it-shine-in-the-sun colour – in your flower gardens, in your planters, on the deck. It's time.
With the forecast for the rest of the week calling for temperatures in the mid-20s by May 17 and the high teens on the weekend (Yes, it's true!), it's time to start planting.
And if you know someone who has been victimized by the floods, put a few annuals in a pot and take it over to them. They might need a little extra encouragement in believing the crazy will ever be cleaned up. They'll appreciate the pot. They might have to move it from spot to spot until their cleanup is completed. But they will appreciate the show of support, encouragement and a little colour. Try putting a vegetable plant in there, too. Who doesn't love an edible?
