Dad's been gone twenty three years now. Not a month goes by without a person outside my immediate family or my own heart, that brings up Giovanni-Johnny. As we impress upon our children--the value of doing the right and proper thing, our family just has to listen to the people who visit our nursery, to see the results of a good man. Twenty three years later, we hear of his good deeds and how he is missed.
A characteristic that was endearing to my dad was his generosity. This man liked to share what he had. He donated, he gave, he opened his home. He acted on his belief that you have value, feel valued when you are contributing.
After Johnny passed on, Kirkland named a new street after him. It is in the new development of Lacy Green. We, his children, feel humbled when we drive by it, or go on it. We understand that this is one testimony to the legacy of a gentleman.
Happy Father's Day! We will toast to Johnny's memory and relish our family time this Sunday.
