The time has come for our gardens to rest

Even simply planning to document the yard with photos would be a start for spring 2017. Once you have an idea of what you would like, plan out t...

Enjoy your fathers, may you be developing fond memories with them

Enjoy your fathers, may you be developing fond memories with them
Father's Day has become a day of reflection for me, having lost our dad 24 years ago. It is still a celebration, as we had such a fruitful relationship while he lived. I did not think I had more to say about my dad, after posting my Father's Day homage last year and highlighting his wonderfulness with a picture of his five grandkids with the 'Amoro...

More bees please!

More bees please!
A woman walked into our store last week looking for a spray for bees. My ears perked up as I'm always interested in anything bees. Discussing what her bee issue was, I discovered she had a general bug issue, but she was terrified of bees so she picked on them. She wanted to obliterate them, in case they invaded her garden. I bre...

The Long Weekend!

The Long Weekend!
It is coming. Weather reports are enticing us with a favorable forecast, after battering us with the cold spring. My morning ritual is walking through my garden and looking at the changes. While the palette is still rather bland, framed with the vibrant green (thank you rainy spring), I love seeing plants come up and present themselv...

Our mother is special

Our mother is special
Our mother is special. Really. So much so, that we are constantly reminded to appreciate her. Not a day passes without one of our dear customers asking about 'Nonna'. She receives countless visits from patrons and discussions ensue about gardens, cooking, travels to Italy and mostly about families. Once she goes back to her chore of ...

It's fall and there is lots of gardening still to do!
It has been a glorious end of summer! No, we are not closing soon. We are an old-fashioned, authentic garden center, and we know that , until the snow arrives, there is lots of gardening still to do. Planting Yes, it is a good time to plant. The cooler nights and days offer a less-stressful environment for what you plant now. Whatever we have in po...

Dad's been gone twenty three years now

Dad's been gone twenty three years now

Dad's been gone twenty three years now. Not a month goes by without a person outside my immediate family or my own heart, that brings up Giovanni-Johnny. As we impress upon our children--the value of doing the right and proper thing, our family just has to listen to the people who visit our nursery, to see the results of a good man. Twenty three years later, we hear of his good deeds and how he is missed.

Mamma

Mamma

A mother is the source of life, the nurturer, the caretaker. She represents the world to us. Having the “best” Mom is a claim we can all rightfully own. To mark this occasion on Sunday, May 10, what can you do for her, or give to her, that would make her day? Well, you know your mom!

Fall is here so let’s get busy!

Fall is here so let’s get busy!

Fall is here! I’ve been hearing two sides to our fall. There are those of us who love the crispness, the changing colors, the harvest. Then there are those who see the fall as a way of hanging desperately on to summer, longing for the long sunny days, the heat, the bounty of flowers blooming.

As much as I am a romantic, and I could chat up either side with colourful, heartfelt language, I tend to disregard all of the above and focus on what needs to get done. We certainly can’t change or control it, so let’s get busy.
